RichmondBUILD
The RichmondBUILD program provides access to training and employment services in construction, HazMat and green career industries for San Pablo residents. RichmondBUILD training consists of core pre-apprenticeship construction and carpentry training, along with the following electives:
- Extended carpentry
- Advanced carpentry skills, including Energy Efficiency Audits & Retrofits, Electrical and Solar Technology & Installation
- Hazardous waste removal training and certification
- Electrical training, including electrical safety, introduction to electrical, introduction to lighting and lighting maintenance & repair
Previous RichmondBUILD graduates from San Pablo have landed positions on the Solar One Richmond Project and the Chevron Modernization Project. Recent graduates have joined premier trade unions such as the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, earning up to $42.55 per hour. RichmondBUILD places 80% of graduates at a starting wage of $18.33 per hour.

Opportunity Build
Rising Sun’s Opportunity Build program is a free 10-week job readiness program in Oakland that prepares adults with barriers to employment for union apprenticeship and careers in the building trades. Opportunity Build teaches the skills employers are looking for. It helps you understand different union career opportunities, prepares you for those opportunities through hands-on and classroom training, and connects you directly with unions and employers. Training includes the Multi-Craft Core Curriculum (MC3) certification, OSHA 10 certification, First Aid/CPR certification, hands-on construction training, professional skills development, physical fitness training, field trips to job sites, and more. After completing training, participants benefit from 12 months of case management and career services, as well as alumni events and resources.
