Stride Center

The Stride Center harnesses the power of technology and the digital economy to help men, women, and families on the road to self-sufficiency and independence. They prepare students for professional careers in Information Techology. 

Under the SPEDC partnership with the Stride Center, verified San Pablo residents have the opportunity to take courses, receive certifications, internship opportunities, lifetime job placement and retention assistance. 

CompTia A+ Computer and IT Training Program:

Enrollment is now open for a valuable program that provides: 

  • In-depth technical training in Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
  • Preparation to test for the industry-recognized and valued CompTIA A+ certification
  • Training in the personal skills needed to succeed in a dynamic, professional workplace
  • Extensive preparation for interviewing. Guaranteed interviews. Job placement assistance 

The program will kickstart your Tech career preparing you for entry-level ICT jobs such as PC Technician, ICT Help Desk Specialist, Desktop Computer Support Specialist, and Network Support Specialist. These Tech professionals work closely with technology users in all types of businesses providing technical assistance and support related to computers, computer systems and networks, smartphones, hardware, and software. They answer questions, diagnose and isolate problems, and determine and implement solutions. They contribute to business success by increasing worker productivity. 

While pay varies by experience, location, and employer, it ranges from $16/hour to about $16/hour to about $23/hour, and average starting pay for our A+ graduates in 2015 was $19.30/hour

Courses and Certifications:

A+ PC Technician course is designed for individuals who are seeking an IT career in technical support. It is recommended that before beginning the A+ training that applicants have some foundational knowledge of computer technologies and the aptitude to learn a large volume of information in a relatively short period of time.

Coding 99 Web Application Fundementals is designed to give students practical, employable coding skills to help prepare them for entry-level positions in the growing field of web application development. This course will include lectures, class discussion, labs and projects, guest speakers and portfolio building. The portfolio will be used to demonstrate to prospective employers the students' proficiency in coding and their ability to develop useful web applications. 

Network + is a certification that is trusted around the world. It validates the essential knowledge and skills needed to confidently design, configure, manage and troubleshoot any wired and wireless networks. CompTIA Network+ certified individuals are in-demand worldwide.

Security + is the certification covering the essential principles for network security and risk management – making it an important stepping stone of an IT security career.

Success Stories:

Recent San Pablo graduate, Billy Morales, credits the Stride Center for placing him in his current position at Del Monte Foods Inc., where he earns $50,000 annually working full-time. 

Another San Pablo graduate, Xiomara Rincon, landed a position at TRZ Associates, a small software firm in Oakland.
