WIOA

WIOA stands for Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act; it is a federal law that was passed in 2014, which maintains and funds a network of career centers and employment and training programs across the United States (U.S.).

The San Pablo Economic Development Corporation (San Pablo EDC) is part of the WIOA program in Contra Costa County; we offer free case management, job search assistance, and training services to the public. The goal of the WIOA program is to help job seekers find gainful employment with good wages and benefits, and to help employers find well-qualified workers to fill their job vacancies.

In order to be eligible for WIOA services, you must be:

- A U.S. citizen or legal resident (living in any county);

- 18 years old or older;

- Unemployed or underemployed; and

- Registered with the Selective Service if you are a male born after 1959, unless you arrived in the U.S. after age 25.

By applying for the WIOA program, you will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with the EDC’s workforce team on your job search; you may also qualify for financial assistance for professional training. It is important to know that WIOA is not an entitlement program; enrollment in WIOA is not automatic, and WIOA participants must work in good faith towards achieving their professional goals with the support of the EDC workforce team within a given period of time. In order to apply for WIOA services with the San Pablo EDC, first attend our WIOA Orientation.
